3) The Young Professionals Committee – Fundraising for Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Bay Area

Did you know it costs $3,000 to pair one little brother with one big brother? Crazy I know!… but with background checks, a full time staff, and over 1,000 matches in the Bay Area to support, its a lot of work! I’ve been a Big Brother for almost two years now, and towards the end of 2010 I decided I wanted to get more involved in the back end of the Big Brothers Big Sisters program. Enter the Young Professionals Committee of Silicon Valley… The YPC is a fund raising channel for BBBSBA and basically the goal is to plan and host networking events in an effort to raise money for new matches. Wine tastings, auctions, and happy hours, oh my! We put on events, so you can come, sip a cocktail or three, do some networking, and raise money for a truly venerable cause.

Big Brothers Big Sisters is always looking for support, however currently they need help in some places more than others. Currently there is a back log for women matches… the wait is about a YEAR to get paired up, so if you want to get involved while you are on the waiting list… come check out the YPC!  Guys, Big Brothers are needed desperately! There are many young males here in the Bay Area that are looking for some fellowship with an older males.  I totally invite you to come and check it out, ask some questions, and if it looks right for you, sign up to be a Big Brother.

The YPC Silicon Valley has a facebook page… “like” us if you want to get the 411 about upcoming events: Click HERE

If you’d like information on any of this stuff, I’m more than happy to chat about it… just send me a note!
