Wedding Hair 101 – Hot Hair Tips from a Super Stylist!

Hey there!

Every month I send a newsletter sharing a few tips and tricks from some of my favorite Bay Area wedding vendors.  If possible I also try to sneak in a discount code or promotion to help save a few pennies in your budget. I hope you’ll find a few tid bits that can help in planning your wedding.

Below is the newsletter I sent out for June, but if you’d like to subscribe to get these little gems in your email once a month, please visit: http://blog.colsongriffith.com/newsletter-for-brides/

Hot hair tips from an educator, stylist, and hair guru Rebekah Nummer

Rebekah Nummer Hair Stylist and Redkin EducatorThis month I wanted to feature a hair stylist, and there is no one better than Miss Rebekah Nummer! As an educator, stylist, and hair guru she has been in the industry 13 years, seeking and sharing knowledge with the salon community. She is currently teaching Redken color techniques to other stylists and working full time as a stylist for Carmichael Salon in San Francisco. I had the opportunity to see one of her classes and was blown away at the depth of knowledge she presented to her students. She broke down hair dyes to the actual molecular details of the chemicals used, and showed how to formulate for lasting and realistic coloring. Having someone like Rebekah on your side for a wedding would be a sure bet to having a stress free wedding day, while getting an amazing style that fits your vision exactly.

She runs her own blog focused on sharing hair care and styling techniques… totally awesome stuff. Knowing someone so passionate about what they do just makes me smile. www.rebekahnummer.com

Below are a few tips and tricks that Indy has provided you to think about as you approach your wedding hair, and below she is offering a discount on trial appointments to readers of this newsletter! Read on my friends!

Wedding Hair Getting Ready Image1) Think long term!

Think long term. Talk to your stylist as soon as you know the day is coming. Plan haircuts and color with your ultimate wedding hair in mind. Hair treatments and protective products are really important if you are growing your hair out. When considering haircolor, I usually lean toward timeless for a bride. Solid color, fine to medium highlights or a slight increase of vibrancy will look great in photos for years to come.

Engagement Hair by Rebekah Nummer2) Book a consultation

Book a consultation. Before your appointment create Pinterest boards and email links to your stylist. This is an amazing new tool perfect for brides to be!

Ask your stylist what they recommend. Try to be open to feedback and recommendations but be clear if you have rigid expectations. Bring photos of whatever you have photos of. The dress, theme, colors, bridesmaid dress, anything… Bring photos of hair you like even if it isn’t what you want. You could also bring photos of hair you don’t like so a stylist knows what not to do.

Wedding Hair Style Updo3) Book a trial appointment

Book a trial appointment. This will ensure you know your hair will do what you want. You will be able to see if you will need any additional tools such as extensions, volumizing sponges, etc. Most salons charge the same price for trial and wedding hair appointments.

For your trial appointment:

  • Get there early
  • Bring hair accessories
  • Bring tear sheets (magazine tears)
  • Bring photos of the dress, hair or headpiece, veil, your wedding themes, colors etc.

Bridesmaid Hair Styles4) Consider appointments for other important people!

Consider scheduling appointments for important people other than yourself. Don’t forget the groom! He should have a haircut one to two weeks prior to the wedding so any tan lines that may be present on the hairline will be diminished. Mothers, sisters, Aunts, bridesmaids etc should all be considered when booking salon appointments on the wedding day. At Carmichael Salon, when a wedding party of four or more is booked ahead you get a luxury salon experience including takeaway gifts for the bride as well as something to put in your belly. While it doesn’t cost any more, it does require a 50% deposit when booking.

Bridal Hair Style5) Relax!

Be sure to have food that is easy to eat and has good nutritional content. While you are getting your hair done on your big day, this is a perfect time to eat and hydrate. Plan ahead to do just that.
