Megan and Jonas’ Wedding at Valhalla in South Lake Tahoe, CA

“Godsmacked”… That what he called it as we drove down a dirt road with my headlights scraping the path in front of us.  “When I saw her for the first time, it felt like I was smacked across the face by God himself.”  These are the words that Jonas used to described the first time he saw Megan on their wedding day.  As I listened, I wished I had something profound to say that would elaborate on that sentiment, but “godsmacked” was the word.  Anything else might not seem sufficient, so instead I just sat there with my ears open.  “I was speechless, and… just… full of emotion.” he finished.

As a wedding photographer I feel honored to be in the presence of moments like these.  In the case of Megan and Jonas they agreed to see each other before their ceremony to take time to create some amazing portraits together.  I had Jonas hiding behind a boathouse near the shores of lake Tahoe, and asked Megan sneak around the side, holding her dress high to keep the sand from brushing her pristine mermaid fit dress.  As Megan turned the corner… Jonas’ face alone could tell the rest of the story.  Holding back tears, and boasting a smile that could uplift the sorriest of spirits, these two eyed each other for the first time on their wedding day.  While we photographed this once in a lifetime moment, I could not help but think… THIS… now THIS, is a real moment.  I could not help but imagine what they might be saying to each other in those 5 or 6 minutes alone together, while they were clearly oblivious to anything else in the world.  The spirit in which these two regard each other is amazing, and I really dont think any words that I can type would do it justice.  The pictures tell a million more words than what I could ever type.

Their beautiful wedding was held at Valhalla… a rustic cabin-esque venue nestled against the shores of South Lake Tahoe.  The venue alone seemed to mirror the adventurous nature of Megan and Jonas’ outdoor enthusiasm, featuring a massive grass lawn dinner, and open air dance floor with a log cabin type architecture.  Jonas handed the mic to his good friend Henrick to take the reigns as “toastmaster” (essentially the Norwegian MC for the evening) and he did a perfectly excellent job introducing each of the 12, yes I said it 12!!! speakers, who all had heart felt compliments and witty jokes that had everyone rolling.  After watching the excellence of these toasts, I’m pretty sure Im going to need to have at least 6 Norwegian’s throw down some words at my wedding (Jonas you’re invited)! Something about a Scandinavian screaming, “DAYAAAMNN!!!!!” to describe his first impressions of the bride makes me (and everyone else at the wedding) laugh.  I like… tooootally LOL’d.

Megan and Jonas, you guys are incredible.  Totally enthralled in each other, inspired by each other, and in love with each other.  I can only hope that when I meet the woman of my dreams, our relationship resembles something similar to yours.  Hope you two had an awesome time in Hawaii, and cant wait to catch up in SF for some good eats!

    COLSON!
I am so late in commenting on this, but can I blame it on the ‘newlywed haze’?!

Anyway, thank you so so much for the incredible work you did on our wedding day. I absolutely loved your blog post & how you described the whole day from your perspective… it felt so surreal from our end, but you’ve captured it perfectly – you were such an essential part of the day, and we were honored to have you there.

Thank you again (tusen takk from Jonas) — can’t wait to catch up over dinner/drinks soon!ReplyCancel
