I’ve known Alan for some time now… we’re buddies from College, and I’ve had a great time getting to know Leanna since they started dating. Last weekend we did their engagement photos and it was another one of those freak of nature weather weekends in San Francisco. While New York and Boston were getting pummeled with sub freezing temperatures, California was smiling with 70+ degree weather and blue skies (yes, I’m kinda bragging, but now its 50 and raining 3 different directions, so I guess it all evens out!). Alan mentioned wanting to phtograph somewhere “woodsy” and a beach. Well I know just the place. The Presidio (because I am pretty much in love with the images I got there there the weekend prior) and Baker Beach. Right next to each other… easy cheesy! I love engagement sessions because they are a little bit of a learning session for both me as a photographer, as well as the couple. I consider it a little “try it before you buy it” session. So what did I learn you ask? The thing I noticed most was Leanna’s grace… her gentleness, her sweetness, and her softness. So many times I’d ask Leanna to lean in and hug or kiss Alan, to put her hands around his face and hold him close, or just look in his eyes, and every time she did, there was this closeness and this sense of intimacy that I feel was so perfect for these images. It just came so naturally, and was fun to watch from behind the lens. It makes me flash forward to their wedding and think about the types of images we’ll be able to create on that big day. Gotta give props to my man Alan as well… he held his own by keeping things light hearted. Always good for a laugh. Leanna and Alan, thanks for letting me document this part of your story together… cant wait for the wedding!
