Zoya found my post on Craigslist… The post went a little like this… “Do you hate your wedding photos? If so, contact me and we’ll get together, thrown on your wedding gown, grab a camera, and we’ll re-take those bad boys to get you something you love.” Orrr something like that. Turns out that Zoya had planned her wedding in Belize and purchased her wedding dress all before she realized that she was pregnant with her now one year old son Remi. Something tells me the dress does not fit as well when you are 7 months pregnant. I mean… not that I’ve worn one or anything, I’ve just got a hunch. In the end Zoya never got to wear the dress she had purchased for her wedding. She never had photos taken of her in a white dress. That totally sucks! This is exactly the type of person I was looking for.
We got together at Garin Regional Park over in Hayward to see if we could create some images that would put that dress to use! Ripping the tags off of her dress ten minutes before she arrived, Zoya and her husband Pavel put up with some intense heat… can you say 85 degrees in the middle of October? Who’s controlling that dial anyways? Gheez! Pavel was a good sport… I can not say he was overly excited about standing in the mid-evening sun in a full on suit, but he was a good sport none the less. Guys, you’ll do anything for your wife right? I’m pretty sure I saw him crack a smile towards the end and tell me it wasn’t too bad… (Colson FTW!!!) Ha, must have been the cows in the background. :D
The great Melissa Crain from Arken Studios offered up her photographic talents for the day after hearing about this project. I was so happy to have her join… having another photographer around to bounce ideas off of was a great experience. Every person sees a scene a little differently, and I always try to consider their perspective to see what I might be missing. Annnnd I later found out she can conquer a monster burrito without even blinking!
I love these wedding re-shoots, its a great way for me to practice my technique, work on new poses, and better hone my working style with wedding clients. It helps keep my creative energy flowing… and when its all said and done, Zoya and Pavel get some great images that remind them of a wonderful moment in their lives.
If you know someone who hates their wedding photos… holla back yo!
